Trump gives Iran 10 days to accept nuclear deal terms

Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has warned Iran to accept American terms for a new nuclear agreement within about 10 days, saying failure to reach a deal could lead to serious consequences. He said the coming days will show whether diplomacy can prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

Speaking during a meeting of his new diplomatic initiative focused on global security, Trump said a meaningful agreement must be reached quickly. He warned that “bad things will happen” if Iran refuses to comply, underscoring growing pressure from Washington.

The warning comes as the United States increases its military presence in the Middle East. Additional naval forces, fighter aircraft and missile defense systems have been moved into the region, signaling readiness amid rising tensions.

Nuclear negotiations between Iran and Western powers have made limited progress in recent weeks. Key disagreements remain over uranium enrichment, missile development and regional security issues. Washington wants Iran to curb enrichment activities, limit its missile program and reduce support for armed groups across the region. In return, Iran could receive relief from economic sanctions.

Tehran maintains that its nuclear program is peaceful and says it will not give up its right to enrich uranium. Iranian officials have also warned that any military action against the country would trigger strong retaliation, including possible strikes on U.S. bases in the region.

The International Atomic Energy Agency has warned that Iran possesses highly enriched uranium that could be further refined to weapons grade if tensions escalate and monitoring arrangements weaken.

The standoff has raised global concerns. Energy markets remain sensitive to the risk of conflict in the Middle East, especially threats to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil supplies. Regional powers and Russia have urged restraint, warning that escalation could destabilize an already fragile region.

Diplomats say the coming days will be critical in determining whether talks continue or tensions move closer to confrontation.
