Tenth grade Sunday school students of St. Thomas Cathedral Chicago expressed solidarity with Ukrain

Chicago: Tenth grade Sunday school students of St. Thomas Cathedral, Chicago expressed their support for Ukraine. Adopting ‘missionary work’ as the theme of their class, these students have gained the attention of the community through the activities that justify their theme. They expressed their harmony with the suffering unfortunate people in Ukraine through the Bake Sale that conducted on St. Patrick's Day.

Baked sweets such as cakes, cupcakes and cookies were sold during this event. All the snacks were on sale for ‘take any for $2’. Sunday School teachers along with parish vicars were available for them with full support. Combined the motivation and heart full support of the community caused to raise $ 2300 for the purpose. The entire amount raised will be used to support CNEWA's special campaign in Ukraine: Greek Catholic Church (the world’s largest Eastern Catholic Church), refugee families, humanitarian relief services.

The donation will directly support CNEWA’s partnerships with, Sheptytsky Hospital in Lviv, which is treating the wounded, Ukrainian-Greek Catholic dioceses, who are receiving centers for refugee families, Caritas Ukraine, several religious congregations, and the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv for the support of their refugee centers.

The Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA) operates in the Middle East, Northeast Africa, India, and Eastern Europe in areas where poverty, war, and evictions are destroying the lives of innocent people. Founded in 1926, CNEWA is a global Papal Agency for Fundraising for Eastern Catholic Churches.

The support and guidance from Parish Vicar Fr. Thomas Kadukappilli and Assistant Vicar Fr Melvin Mangalath along with Sunday school teachers, Jo Kanikunnel and Nisha Mathews Eric contributed to the success of event. Jenny Vallikulam led the students for the class.
