WHO declares Monkey pox as Global health emergency

The World Health Organization has declared monkeypox a global pandemic. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting of WHO. A health emergency has been declared as the virus continues to spread in many parts of the world. All three confirmed cases in India.

This is the biggest warning issued by the WHO. Monkeypox has been confirmed in 72 countries in the world so far. 70 percent of patients are from European countries. A high-level meeting of the World Health Organization had discussed declaring a health emergency over monkeypox. Then the final decision was taken in this regard.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 15,400 people have been diagnosed with monkeypox. However, more members of the committee told WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus that there is no need to declare a state of emergency at this time.

Before this, on January 30, 2020, the WHO declared the Covid virus as a global pandemic. At the time of the announcement, there were only 82 cases of Covid-19 outside China.

The WHO and national governments have been facing intense pressure from scientists and public health experts to take more action on monkeypox.

Cases of the viral disease have ballooned since the committee first met at the end of June, when there were only about 3,000 cases.

At the time, the expert group agreed to reconsider their position on the emergency declaration if the outbreak escalated and yesterday committee declared the health emergency during a media briefing in Geneva.
