Queen Elizabeth II laid to rest; ten-thousands witness committal service to pay final respects

London - Queen Elizabeth II's coffin was lowered into the royal vault in St George's Chapel, on the grounds of Windsor Castle, ending the committal service. During the committal service, the Imperial State Crown, the Orb and Sceptre were removed from their place on her coffin by the Crown Jeweller. They will ultimately be returned to the Tower of London.

The royal families of Europe and Central Asia came to London to attend the funeral of the late British Queen. Many heads of state also attended the funeral.

Japan's Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako arrived in London, breaking with the royal family's usual practice of not attending funerals. King Harold V of Norway, King Albert II of Monaco, Dutch King William Alexander, King Carl XVI of Sweden, King Philip of Belgium, King Felipe VI of Spain, and Queen Margaret of Denmark, who is also a relative of Queen Elizabeth, participated in the ceremony in London.

Apart from the royal leaders, the heads of various democratic governments also came to London. Indian President Draupadi Murmu, American President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Uttokan, Brazilian President Belsonaro, Italian President Sergio Mattella German (President Frank Walter Spanmeier, Israeli President Isaac Herzog, South Korean President Yoon Sook Yeol, Turkish President Erdogan and others came to pay their last respects to Queen Elizabeth.

The rulers of the Commonwealth of Nations such as Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, New Zealand Prime Minister Jessica Arden, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Fijian Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe and others were present.

China is represented by Vice President Wang Krippan. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michael attended the funerals, despite the Brexit deadlock.

A visit to Ireland in 2011 brought Irish Prime Minister Michael Martin to pay his last respects to the Queen, who was comforted by decades of trauma. Iran, Nicaragua, North Korea, Myanmar, Syria, Venezuela and Afghanistan were also not invited.

Considering the presence of foreign heads of state, Button had prepared a security system of the kind seen so far.

US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden also came on Sunday to pay their respects. Biden called Queen Elizabeth II "decent" "honourable" and "all about service" as he signed the condolence book, saying his heart went out to the royal family.

"Queen Elizabeth lived her life for the people," Jill Biden wrote in a book for spouses and ambassadors. “She served with wisdom and grace. We will never forget her warmth, kindness and the conversations we shared.”

Ukraine's first lady Olena Zelenska was among mourners paying their respects at the queen's coffin.

Queen Elizabeth II's demise is a reminder of the diminishing personalities from the WWII era.
