Grant Shapps appointed as new Home Secretary; Suella Braverman's resignation a blow to the new government

LONDON: Home Minister Suella Braverman in the Liz Truss cabinet has resigned. Grant Shapps was appointed as the new Home Secretary.
Braverman stated that she had sent an official document from her personal email to a parliamentary colleague, which was a breach of the law and that she was resigning.

Braverman also noted dissatisfaction with Lis Tuss's administration in the resignation letter. The latest incident further throws Truss' tenure as Prime Minister into trouble. Braverman is the second cabinet exit in a week.

In her resignation letter, she says that pretending not to see the mistakes made and moving forward believing that all the problems will be solved by themselves is not the right politics.

The country is going through a bad situation. I have concerns about the government going forward.

Key promises made to voters were not kept. She also says she is concerned about the government's commitment to implementing the manifesto.

Finance Minister Kwasi Kwarteng was sacked by Liz Truss last week over economic policies that sent the UK market into a tailspin.

Braverman's recent resignation is a major blow to Truss' administration.

Braverman was one of those who openly opposed Truss's election promise of backing away from corporate tax cuts.

Grant Shapps is a former transport secretary who strongly supported Rishi Sunak in the race for the leadership of the Conservative Party.

Shapps' appointment is seen as a move by Truss to keep a large section of the Conservative Party on board.

Meanwhile, Truss's first question-and-answer session in Parliament yesterday ended in an uproar with heavy criticism and demands for his resignation.

Truss apologized in Parliament for the blunders after the new finance minister, Jeremy Hunt, withdrew the controversial financial reform.

When Labor leader Keir Spammer questioned whether the Prime Minister would continue, she made it clear that she was not in the habit of backing down after losing.
