"There is no successor"; poll to decide if Musk should step down

On Sunday, Twitter CEO Elon Musk launched a poll on the social media platform asking whether he should step down as CEO, adding that he would follow the poll results.

The poll is set to close at 11:20 a.m. GMT on Monday, but the billionaire did not specify when he would step down if the poll results indicated that he should.

In response to a Twitter user's comment on a possible change in CEO, Musk said "There is no successor".

Musk told a Delaware court last month that he would cut back on his time at Twitter and eventually find a new CEO.

The poll follows Twitter's policy update on Sunday, which prohibited accounts created solely for the purpose of promoting other social media firms, as well as content containing links or usernames for competing platforms.

Musk apologized minutes before the poll and tweeted, "Going forward, there will be a vote for major policy changes."

A few hours later, Twitter launched a poll to determine whether the platform should have a policy prohibiting accounts from advertising on other social media platforms from using Twitter.

The policy change would affect content from social media platforms such as Meta Platforms'  Facebook and Instagram, as well as Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr, and Post, according to Twitter support in a tweet.

Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, who recently invested in the social media platform Nostr, replied to the Twitter support post with one word: "Why?".

Dorsey stated that the Nostr promotion ban "doesn't make sense" in response to another user's post about it.

TikTok, a short video platform owned by China's ByteDance Ltd, was not included in the list.

Twitter's Trust and Safety Council, a volunteer group formed in 2016 to advise the social media platform on on-site decisions, was disbanded last week.

The policy change follows other erratic behaviour at Twitter since Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla , purchased the social network. He fired top executives and laid off roughly half of the company's workforce while deciding how much to charge for the subscription service Twitter Blue.

Musk also deactivated the accounts of several journalists following a backlash over the publication of public data about the billionaire's plane.

Musk reinstated the accounts on Friday, following criticism from government officials, advocacy groups, and several journalism organizations, with some claiming that the microblogging platform was endangering press freedom.
