"Alphabet CEO Pichai bags $200 million in 2022 despite cost-cutting measures"

Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet Inc., got compensation of roughly $226 million in 2022, more than 800 times the average employee's salary, the firm revealed in a regulatory filing on Friday.

The report revealed that stock awards worth around $218 million were part of Pichai's compensation.

The salary gap has emerged at a time when Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has been laying off employees worldwide. The Mountain View, California-based corporation revealed intentions to axe 12,000 jobs globally in January, which would represent 6% of its total staff.

A dispute about layoffs led to a walkout by hundreds of Google employees at the company's London operations at the beginning of this month.

After more than 200 employees were let go, Google staff members in Zurich staged a walkout in March.
