"G7 Ministers Rally for Full Adoption and Expansion of Black Sea Grain Accord"

The agriculture ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) held a two-day meeting in Miyazaki, Japan, during which they recognized the importance of the Black Sea Grain Initiative (BSGI). The communique issued after the meeting stated that the ministers strongly supported the extension, full implementation, and expansion of BSGI.

Furthermore, the communique also condemned Russia's attempts to use food as a means of destabilization and geopolitical coercion. The G7 ministers reiterated their commitment to acting in solidarity and supporting those most affected by Russia's weaponization of food.

The G7 members stand ready to support Ukraine's recovery and reconstruction, according to the communique. This includes providing expertise in de-mining agricultural land and reconstructing agricultural infrastructure.

The BSGI is an international forum that aims to promote cooperation in the grain sector of the Black Sea region. Its members include Ukraine, Russia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, and Kazakhstan. The BSGI is an essential platform for the coordination of policies, the sharing of best practices, and the promotion of sustainable development in the grain sector.

In recent years, Russia's use of food as a tool of geopolitical coercion has caused significant concern among the international community. The G7 ministers' strong support for the BSGI and their commitment to acting in solidarity against Russia's actions is a significant development in the ongoing efforts to address this issue. The pledge to support Ukraine's recovery and reconstruction also demonstrates the G7's commitment to helping countries affected by Russia's actions.
