Manipur- The state government of Manipur has issued an order to postpone the reopening of schools. As per the official notice, classes will not resume until July 8.
The order states that the previous directive to resume normal classes, which was issued on June 19, will be deferred until July 8 or until further notice, depending on which comes earlier.
The order also instructs all Zonal Education officers under the Department of Education-Schools in Manipur to inform the relevant individuals and undertake the necessary actions as per the directive.
The order clarifies that it has been issued with the government's approval, as indicated in the letter number MISC5-10/1/2023 EDN (S)-EDN(S) dated June 30, 2023.
According to a previous report by the state police on Friday, certain areas experienced tension with occasional incidents of gunfire in the past 24 hours. However, officials also assured that the situation is currently under control and normal in the majority of districts in Manipur.
In a previous incident on May 3, ethnic clashes erupted during a rally organized by the All Tribal Students Union (ATSU) in opposition to the demand for including Meiteis in the list of Scheduled Tribes (STs).
