US - Florida's Republican representative, Greg Steube, made public his submission of articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden on Friday, August 11. The impeachment move by Republican lawmakers is the latest development in their ongoing scrutiny of President Biden and his son Hunter Biden's business dealings.
Steube's office issued a statement detailing the reasons behind the impeachment articles, citing "high crimes and misdemeanors." The four articles encompass allegations of abuse of power, bribery, extortion, honest services fraud, obstruction of justice, fraud, and involvement in illicit drug and prostitution activities.
These allegations stem from accusations of unlawful business transactions and tax offenses. The office of the Florida Republican legislator remarked, "The time has come to impeach Joe Biden," asserting that the President has eroded the reputation of his office, tarnished the Presidency's prestige, betrayed the public's trust, and behaved in a manner that undermines the principles of law and justice, all to the detriment of American citizens.
Notably, the White House has dismissed any prospect of President Joe Biden granting a pardon to his son Hunter Biden.
Earlier in the year, Steube endorsed former President Donald Trump for the 2024 White House race, claiming that Trump alone could rectify the perceived failures of the Biden administration. In an interview with Newsmax, Steube highlighted various inquiries conducted by House Republicans following their assumption of the majority, as well as the recent testimony of Devon Archer, a former business associate of Hunter Biden.
Devon Archer's testimony, provided earlier this month to the House Oversight Committee, revealed that Hunter Biden had frequently involved his father, who was then Vice President, in his business interactions. Nevertheless, Archer consistently denied that the current president participated in these discussions.
This move to impeach President Biden is not the first of its kind from Republican lawmakers. In May, Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene introduced similar articles of impeachment, criticizing Biden's handling of migrant crossings at the US-Mexico border. Greene contended that Biden's actions deliberately jeopardized national security by failing to enforce immigration laws and secure the border. She additionally claimed that Biden's approach had permitted around six million undocumented individuals from over 160 nations to enter the country, thereby depriving Customs and Border Protection (CBP) of the necessary resources and policies for safeguarding the United States.
