Manama - Israel has inaugurated its new embassy in Bahrain, marking a significant step in its relationship with the kingdom as the third anniversary of the US-brokered normalization agreement between Bahrain and Israel approaches.
The embassy's official opening took place with Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen present, according to Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani. Al Zayani described this historic event as an important milestone in the bilateral relations between the two nations.
During a joint press conference, Al Zayani reiterated Bahrain's strong support for achieving a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace that safeguards the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
This visit marks Foreign Minister Eli Cohen's first trip to one of the countries that established diplomatic ties with Israel as part of the Abraham Accords in 2020. Other countries involved in the Accords include the United Arab Emirates and Morocco.
Cohen, who assumed office in late December, held discussions with his Bahraini counterpart on various areas of cooperation, such as trade, investment, technology exchange, training, and tourism.
In a meeting with Bahrain's Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Cohen expressed Israel's interest in establishing normalization agreements with additional Arab nations, as announced by the Israeli Foreign Ministry.
