New Delhi - Kurukshetra University in Haryana has officially declared its decision to award the 2021-22 Goyal Peace Prize to ISRO Chairman S. Somanath for his exceptional contributions to space technology. The university's Goyal Prize Award committee, under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Professor Som Nath Sachdeva, lauded Somanath's unwavering dedication, both as a scientist and as the Chairman of ISRO, in utilizing space technology for the betterment of humanity.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also acknowledged ISRO's commendable work during his recent address at the organization's headquarters, praising its efforts in enhancing "ease of living and ease of governance" and expanding essential services such as education, communication, and healthcare to remote areas across the nation.
Furthermore, the university revealed that a total of 110 distinguished scientists from various fields have received Goyal Awards over the years. These prestigious awards were established by philanthropist Ram S Goyal and include notable recipients such as Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak, the founder of Sulabh International, who was the inaugural recipient of the Goyal Peace Prize in 2015, and Dr. K Kasturirangan, a former ISRO Chairman, who was honored with a Goyal Award in 1998.
