New York Declares State of Emergency Due to Flash Floods Caused by Torrential Rainfall

New York, Sep 29 - Today the Governor of New York took the step of declaring a state of emergency in response to flash floods that engulfed the city due to relentless rainfall. These floods disrupted subway services and necessitated the closure of numerous roads.

As reported by Reuters, the city received over 5.08 cm of rainfall by this morning, leading to the issuance of a flash flood warning for New York. Governor Kathy Hochul characterized these floods as a "life-threatening event" and implored residents to heed the warnings issued by authorities. In addition to New York City, she also declared a state of emergency for Long Island and the Hudson Valley.

CNN, citing the city's emergency management, reported that floodwaters had entered basements in New York on Friday morning. Rainwater inundated roads in various areas, including Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Hoboken, New Jersey, prompting their closure.
