Beijing knife attack injures five, including three children, police say

Chinese police reported Monday that five people, including three children, were injured in a stabbing attack in Beijing. The incident took place around 3:20 p.m. local time (3:20 a.m. ET) in the upscale Haidian district of the capital, according to a police statement. 

The suspect, a 50-year-old man identified by his last name, Tang, was apprehended at the scene. Police added that the injured individuals were transported to the hospital and are in stable condition, with no life-threatening injuries.


A video circulating on social media appeared to show two children lying on the ground, unresponsive and bleeding. One child was receiving assistance from an adult, while the other still wore a backpack. A third individual was also seen lying nearby, with bystanders attempting to help using bloodstained tissues.



The incident occurred near the intersection of Wanquanzhuang Road and Wanliu Middle Road, close to Zhongguancun No.3 Elementary School.
