Brussels: NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte met with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump in Palm Beach, Florida, on Friday, a NATO spokesperson confirmed on Saturday.
In a statement, spokesperson Farah Dakhlallah said the discussions centered on "a range of global security challenges facing the Alliance."
NATO’s website reported that Rutte also engaged with Congressman Mike Waltz, slated to serve as Trump’s national security adviser, along with other members of the incoming national security team.
Dutch media suggested that Rutte, who recently assumed the NATO leadership role, traveled to Florida on a government aircraft for the meeting. However, NATO did not respond to queries about these reports.
Rutte, formerly the Netherlands' prime minister, is recognized for fostering strong diplomatic ties with Trump during his initial presidency from 2017 to 2021, positioning him as a key European figure in transatlantic relations.
