Vatican City: The Papal Foundation proudly marks 25 years of empowering seminarians, religious, and lay leaders through the John Paul II Scholarship Fund. Established in the U.S. in 1988, the Foundation's global mission spans education, healthcare, and infrastructure, with a focus on uplifting communities worldwide.

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the scholarship fund on December 5, the Foundation reflected on its remarkable contribution to nearly 2,000 scholars pursuing advanced studies in Rome. This initiative is part of a broader commitment that, in 2024 alone, supported 118 projects across over 60 countries, addressing critical needs such as clean water, school construction, and medical facility development.

Guided by the priorities set by the Pope, the Foundation has allocated funds to translate Church teachings for evangelization, restore sacred buildings, and provide financial support for global educational and humanitarian efforts. Since its inception, it has invested over $225 million in these endeavors, driven by contributions from its dedicated "Stewards of Saint Peter."

The John Paul II Scholarship Program, launched in 1998, was inspired by a conversation between Pope St. John Paul II and Cardinal Francis O’Connor. Initial funding from John and Carol Seaman brought the vision to life. Reflecting on the program, Mr. Seaman noted the personal connection, as Pope John Paul II himself had benefited from scholarships during his studies in Rome. Over the past quarter-century, the fund has granted $16 million, transforming the lives of 1,959 students, including Sister Anna Kapounamai from India, who aims to promote responsible social media use among youth.

Cardinal Seán O’Malley, chairman of the Foundation's Board of Trustees, emphasized the moral imperative of addressing global inequality, quoting the Gospel of Luke: "To whom much is given, much will be required." Echoing this sentiment, Executive Director David Savage described the Foundation's work as a gift to the Catholic Church, embodying the values of faith and charity.

During an April meeting with Pope Francis, the Holy Father commended the Foundation's vital role in supporting educational, pastoral, and humanitarian projects worldwide. He highlighted its contributions to those on the social and spiritual margins, calling for continued efforts to foster solidarity and peace. Through its unwavering mission, The Papal Foundation continues to exemplify the transformative power of faith, generosity, and global unity.
