NSW experiences the dampest November in 121 years

Australia : Average rainfall across New South Wales last month was 132.04mm, previous record being just over 120.19mm in 1917. This was also the wettest November in Australia, an average of 72.62mm beating the previous record of 70.14mm set in 1973.

Some inland regions recorded as much as four times the usual rainfall as the La Nina event in the Pacific took hold. Thus, making it the wettest November NSW has experienced since 1900.

According to The Bureau of Meteorology a range of towns from Bathurst to Forbes beat previous rainfall records by a fifth.
It’s also the coolest November since 1999 in Australia. Rainfall in NSW and Australia was the most since 2010 during spring. Mean temperatures made it the coolest since 2016.

Rivers in the state have a flood watch in place, more rain expected to pour in. The bureau also said, ‘places in the northeast can expect falls of 50mm or more over the next week’.

Since the drought broke in early 2020, Australia’s weather has been favouring wetter-than-normal conditions. Eastern Australia is also expected to have another relatively damp and cool summer.

Meanwhile, other parts of Australia, including South Australia, also posted its wettest November on record. Even though the La Nina event itself is a weaker one than 12 months earlier, the wet November in particular set up “massively different conditions” compared with a year ago, said Andrew Watkins, head of climate prediction services at the bureau.
