Bengaluru : Omicron, the new variant of the corona virus, has been confirmed in India. The Omicron variant was confirmed in two South African nationals, aged 46 and 66, who are now receiving treatment in Karnataka, the Union Ministry of Health issued a statement. The Ministry of Health also urged everyone to be vaccinated as soon as possible.
At present, about 15 people who have been in contact with South African nationals are monitored by the government and their samples sent for testing. The South Africans arrived in Bangalore via New Delhi on the 16th and 20th of this month.
The 66-year-old from South Africa was first diagnosed with Covid. The 46-year-old, who was in contact with him, later developed symptoms.
So far, Omicron has been confirmed in 375 people in 30 countries. Following Saudi Arabia, the disease was confirmed in the UAE yesterday. The UAE Ministry of Health and Immunization said the virus was found in a woman from Africa.
Earlier, a virus had been found in a person returning to the U.S. from South Africa. He arrived in California on November 22 from South Africa. He was diagnosed with the variant a week later.
