Patna: A political storm has erupted in Bihar after Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Vijay Kumar Sinha was accused of holding two voter ID cards and being registered in two separate constituencies. Acting swiftly, the Election Commission has served Sinha a notice, seeking an explanation over the matter.
The controversy was ignited when Bihar Congress president Rajesh Kumar alleged that Sinha’s name appears in both the Lakhisarai constituency his home turf and in Bankipur, Patna. On Saturday, Rajesh Kumar shared screenshots of the draft voter lists on social media platform X, intensifying the debate on electoral integrity.
According to the notice issued by the Electoral Registration Officer of Bankipur, Sinha must submit his written response by 5 p.m. on August 14.
While opposition leaders have seized on the issue to attack the BJP, Sinha has firmly denied wrongdoing, insisting that he is registered to vote in only one constituency. He accused RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav of spreading misinformation and demanded an apology, calling the allegations “politically motivated and baseless.”
The Election Commission’s action comes amid a broader nationwide debate on duplicate voter registrations, with the opposition pushing for stricter checks to ensure transparency ahead of upcoming elections.
