BCCI tweeted ‘Incredible achievement as Ajaz Patel picks up all 10 wickets in the 1st innings of the 2nd Test. He becomes the third bowler in the history of Test cricket to achieve this feat.’
Patel, 33, had bowled 47.5 overs during the innings, more than twice as many as anyone else in the side, His landmark moment came when India's Mohammed Siraj edged an attempted sweep to Rachin Ravindra.
Former cricketer Anil Kumble also congratulated Patel on his "special effort" on Twitter. “Welcome to the club #AjazPatel #Perfect10. Well bowled! A special effort to achieve it on Day1 & 2 of a test match. #INDvzNZ” tweeted the cricketer. Former England captain Kevin Pietersen was also among those to congratulate Patel on the achievement.
The left-armed spinner, Patel, joins the coveted league of England's Jim Laker (1956) and India's Anil Kumble (1999) in picking up 10 wickets in an innings.
