Covid related deaths on the rise in Kerala : Centre's letter of concern, should prevent spread

Thiruvananthapuram : The Central Government has expressed concern over the increase in Covid related deaths in Kerala. In the week ending December 3, 2118 deaths were reported in the state. Reports indicate that this is more than the previous week. The highest number of deaths was reported in Thrissur, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Kollam districts. Union Health Ministry Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said this in a letter to the state health department.


In Kerala, 1,71,521 new Covid cases were reported during the month. The concern is that 55.8 per cent of the total new cases in the country in a month. There has been an increase in the number of new cases reported last week in all the 13 districts of the state.

According to the Center, new cases are being reported in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Thrissur and Kottayam districts.

In addition, the weekly confirmation rate in Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Kottayam and Wayanad districts is more than 10%. In nine districts, the confirmation rate is between 5-10 per cent. The Center has suggested that states tighten monitoring and testing in the wake of the Omicron variant.
