Nine from Jaipur family infected with omicron; cases in India rise to 21

Jaipur : India is facing an increase in Omicron related Covid cases. Apart from Karnataka, Maharashtra and Delhi, Rajasthan has also confirmed this highly contagious Covid variant.

Nine people from a family in Jaipur were confirmed to be infected with the new variant. This takes the total number of cases in the country to twenty-one. Five people who were in close contact with this family who arrived from South Africa were also infected.

Earlier seven people in Maharashtra were also confirmed with the variant. The variant was found in three people who travelled from Nigeria and one person from Finland.

A thirty-seven-year-old from Tanzania who travelled to Delhi was also confirmed with the variant. One case was identified in Gujarat and Maharashtra too. The Health Ministry reported that this person had travelled to Jamnagar in Gujarat.

The first Omicron case in India was confirmed in Karnataka; two people were identified with the variant. The foreigner who was infected had returned to the foreign country. The doctor from Bangalore is currently under observation.
