Indonesia has lifted a tsunami alert which it issued on Tuesday following a magnitude 7.3 undersea earthquake. The earthquake had triggered panic in a region which is most prone to fatal quake. The quake however has not reportedly caused any major damage or casualties.
After an initial tsunami alert, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii and later Indonesia's meteorological agency lifted the warning hours after the quake.
Indonesia, a vast archipelago of 270 million people, is frequently struck by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis. This is owing to its location on the “Ring of Fire,” an arc of volcanoes and fault lines that arcs the Pacific.
