New York: Pfizer has claimed that the company’s Covid pill is effective against Omicron. The drug they said has shown to reduce hospitalization and mortality by up to 90 percent in high-risk adults. The company said the full results of the study of 2,250 people confirmed the early outlook of the pill against the virus.
Combined hospital stays have shown to reduce mortality by 89 percent in high-risk adults when the drug is administered immediately after the onset of Covid symptoms. The company also claims that special laboratory tests show that Pfizer's drug retains its potency against the omicron variant, as predicted by many medical experts.
The revelation comes at a time when Covid cases, deaths and hospitalizations are all set to rise again in the US, leading to 800,000 pandemic deaths. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration may approve Pfizer's or Merkel's pill. It is hoped that a decision will be taken soon.
