A 76000 crore incentive scheme was approved by the Cabinet today. India will set up more than 20 semi-conductor designs, components and display fabrication units under this scheme over the next six years.
The new semiconductor policy will help deepen India's manufacturing base. This is part of the government's initiative to make the country a hub for electronics. Semiconductors are employed in the manufacture of various kinds of electronic devices, including diodes, transistors, and integrated circuits. Such devices have found wide application because of their compactness, reliability, power efficiency, and low cost.
The government has targeted one to two fab units for displays, and 10 units each for designing and manufacturing confidence
