Minister swims for 12 hours to safety after helicopter crash

Madagascar : Police Minister Serge Gelle swam for 12 hours after his helicopter crashed at sea during a rescue mission. The Madagascan government minister remarked it was not his time to die.

The minister and two security officials who had accompanied him also survived the crash.

Mr Gelle, 57, said he swam from 7:30pm to 7:30 am the next morning to Mahambo, a town in Madagascar. He and his team were probing an area in the north-eastern part of the country where a passenger boat had sunk. 39 people are believed to have dies in that accident.
