Infant demise in endosulfan-affected area; social activist Daya Bai criticises health systems

Kasargod: Social activist Daya Bai has strongly criticized the death of a one-and-a-half-year-old baby in the endosulfan effected region. Daya Bai's blamed the inadequacy of the health systems in the district for the infant’s demise. She shared her concern with a private TV channel that such incidents were due to lack of hospitals or neglect of health facilities in the district.

Such systems would want everyone to perish. The people in the region have been fighting for ages to get a neurologist to the area. Daya Bai said a state-of-the-art hospital like AIIMS should come to the district and should not wait any longer.

Parents staged a public protest with the body of the deceased infant. The body of the deceased child was taken to ‘AIIMS hunger strike’ venue as a protest. The parents alleged that the death of the child was due to negligence by the government. The People's Committee is protesting, alleging that the health system in the district is deplorable.

Members of the strike committee said the protest was against the backdrop of similar incidents that had taken place in the endosulfan-affected area before. The strike committee also raised the same allegations as the parents. They blamed the government for not taking action despite the breakdown of health systems.

The daughter of Usha-Mohanan couple of Perincha tribal colony died yesterday. The body of the child was brought to Kasargod from Kozhikode Medical College around 12 last night. Later this morning, the body was brought to the site of protest.
