Muscat is to host two day world Walking Championships starting from March 4 at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The event, organised by the International Association of Athletics Federations in cooperation with the Oman Athletics Federation, will be held around the well-landscaped gardens of the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre (OCEC) in Muscat.

Some of the world’s top athletes have confirmed their participation. Around 1,000 male and female runners from 60 countries from around the world will participate in the race to compete in seven different race categories.

Oman will also participate with the national team comprising 16 athletes.

Sheikh Salem bin Saeed al Amri, president of Oman Athletics Association, said, “We have entered the final stages of preparation for hosting the World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships, which will certainly show the sultanate’s ability in hosting and organising sports events with a high level of efficiency.”
