New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the security of Indians in the wake of Russia's increasing aggression in Ukraine. It is reported that the issue of evacuation of Indians from Ukraine through Russia has been discussed during the meeting. This is the second meeting between the two leaders in a week.
“The leaders reviewed the situation in Ukraine, especially that in Kharkiv, where many Indian students are trapped. Discussed safe evacuation of Indian citizens from conflict zones” - ANI reported.
Earlier, Narendra Modi had spoken to Putin about the security of Indians. He had also demanded that the issue be resolved through diplomacy.
Russian ambassador had said that he would provide safe roads and ensure the safety of Indians. He also said that the death of Indian medical student Naveen would be investigated.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had stated that so far 17,000 Indians had left Ukraine. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, 3352 people have returned to India in the last 24 hours.
Heavy shelling is still going on in major cities in Ukraine.
