Yoko Ono, Japanese artist, musician and activist is taking up some of the largest billboards around the world to broadcast a message of peace.
Every night till the end of March, mega LED screens in major urban areas like Picadilly Lights in London, Times Square in New York and K-Pop Square in Seoul will display the phrase “Imagine Peace” in big bold black text against a plain white background. The broadcast is scheduled to interrupt the billboards at 8:22 p.m. local time.
Musician John Lennon, Ono’s late husband, penned the ground breaking track, “Imagine” in 1971.
Ono's artistic work are all rooted in her timeless message, saying in a press statement that, ”Imagining is something that we can all do, even when we have different opinions about how to get there.”
“Imagine Peace,” Ono’s ongoing art project is displayed as Ukraine continues to be invaded by Russia and over one million refugees have fled Ukraine. As the war is into its second week, from the art world globally, musicians, artists and institutions have gone into a sort of cultural sanction by cancelling concerts, exhibitions and performances in Russia.
