Weddings are commonly expensive. Destination weddings, even more. Lazio, which is Italy’s capital region, has begun a new campaign in order to stimulate the economy post-pandemic. It offers grants of up to €2,000 ($2,200) to couples who get married in the region.
Nel Lazio Con Amore (In Lazio with Love), as the campaign is known, has designated €10 million ($11 million) of Covid recovery funds towards couples of any nationality who plan on weddings or civil unions in Lazio in 2022.
If your application (which is to be filled out in Italian) is accepted, the grant money can be spent for expenses such as flowers, outfits or rings for the couple, on-the-day services such as hair and make-up, photos, venue hire or catering (upto a maximum of €700, or $770). If that’s not enough, one can even put a maximum of €700 towards a honeymoon.
The caveat if you wonder is that the money must be used at firms based in Lazio. Along with that, all the payments need to be made between 14 December 2021 and 31 January 2023, and in-person, traceable payments. Online payments are not allowed. A "fattura" (tax-official invoice) that specifies it's for wedding services must be presented, as well as proof of payment. One can spend more than €2,000, however that is the maximum that would be reimbursed.
