Perth: In a powerful show of unity, thousands gathered at Parliament House for Western Australia’s largest peaceful rally for life. Organised by the Coalition for Life, the annual May event highlighted growing concerns over the rising rate of abortions across the country.
A United Front for Life and Women
The rally drew a diverse crowd—politicians, faith leaders, families, and young people—all sharing one message: defend the unborn and walk alongside women in unplanned pregnancies.
Bipartisan support stood firm. Hon. Kate Dowse and her Liberal counterpart took the stage together, reaffirming their long-standing commitment to life and to mentoring new voices like Hon. Richard Greenwald, Hon. Michelle Hoffman, and Hon. Phil Squeeser.
Voices of Perseverance and Hope
Hon. Nick Goiran encouraged attendees to stay the course. “Your perseverance has brought real change,” he said. “Now is the time to push harder—get involved, stay vocal, and don’t give up.”
Maryka Groenewald, the keynote speaker from the Australian Christian Party, stirred hearts with a call to compassionate action. Known for her work with vulnerable women, she reminded the crowd, “We’re not just saying ‘no’ to abortion. We’re saying ‘yes’ to every woman in crisis who needs support, love, and hope.”
Support Beyond Protest
Speakers highlighted the vital role of Pregnancy Assistance Centres, stressing their importance regardless of political winds. Many praised their hands-on support for women as a true alternative to abortion.
Concerns were raised over WA’s abortion laws, which permit terminations at any stage and limit investigations into failed abortion attempts where babies survive. Calls for accountability and reform echoed throughout the crowd.
Stories That Move and Inspire
Real stories brought urgency to the message. One mother shared how her own experience led her into public service. Another speaker—now a newly elected MP—has already begun advocating for post-abortion care and greater legislative transparency.
Among the rally’s most visible groups was the Catholic Congress, led by Prakash Joseph. With passionate volunteers and a sea of banners, they represented faith in action and energized the crowd.
Committed to Life, Committed to Change
The rally concluded with a moment of silence for lives lost to abortion. As people left Parliament’s steps, they carried a renewed commitment: to defend life, care for women, and build a culture of hope and accountability in Western Australia.
