New Delhi: Weeks after schools have reopened, India has begun giving Corona virus vaccine to children in the age group of 12 to14 years. Administered to this new group is India’s third homegrown vaccine Corbevax, which is a protein-based vaccine, made by Biological E. Corbevax procured an emergency use authorisation on 21st February 2022 from the drug regulator in India for the 12 to 18 years old group.
India currently uses four vaccines - Covishield (Oxford-AstraZeneca), Covaxin, Sputnik V and the latest being Corbevax. Of all the doses administered to the adult age bracket, 90% has been Covishield.
Cipla, the Indian Pharma company, has been authorised by the government to import Moderna’s vaccine, although doses are yet to be availed in India. Sputnik Light, a component of Sputnik V, is a new single-dose vaccine which got the approval from the drug regulator in February.
