Thiruvananthapuram: The draft proposals prepared by the Cultural Affairs department on the report of Justice Hema Commission has been released. The main recommendations are that contracts will be made mandatory in the film industry, alcohol and drugs will not be allowed in work locations, and basic amenities for women will be provided.
The discussion was chaired by Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cherian. Justice Hema Commission’s report runs to 5000 pages. A 3-member panel from the Department of Cultural Affairs were tasked with preparing the proposals. The Draft proposals has now been released.
It outlines proposals to ensure equality, gender equality and job security for women working in the film industry. Women and men should be given equal consideration in the movie sets. Equal pay should be provided. All work done in the movie should be contracted in detail.
Women should not be mistreated directly or indirectly. They should be allowed accommodation in a safe environment. Individuals of any criminal nature should not be associated with on movie sets.
