New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is looking into the possibility of including Rabindranath Tagore and APJ Abdul Kalam along with Gandhiji in the country's currency notes.
This is the first time that the RBI is considering to include those prominent personalities who have considerably contributed towards the development of the nation. According to the Indian Express, the RBI and the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India, under the Ministry of Finance, have prepared two different sets of watermarks for Gandhiji, Tagore and Kalam.
The samples were sent to Prof. Dilip T Shahani, Honorary Professor at IIT Delhi, for an expert analysis. The selected sample will be forwarded to the government for consideration and a final decision will be taken at the highest level. Neither the government nor the opposition has yet commented on the report.
