Kochi: The Kerala Catholic Bishops' Council (KCBC) has said that the world's conscience should be aroused by the growing number of terrorist attacks on Christians. KCBC made the statement in the wake of the brutal massacre by religious extremists that claimed 50 Christian lives in Nigeria on Pentecost Sunday.
Just a few days ago, the beheading of 20 people by the ISIS terrorists shocked the world. In addition to the brutal killings that have taken place in various places over the past few months, fifty people have now been brutally murdered in the Church this Sunday.
KCBC remarked that it was "painful" to see so many innocent people being killed just because they were Christians.
The growing number of Anti-Christian terrorist attacks around the world is a matter that the nations of the world need to consider very seriously. Some recent events indicate that our country is not immune to such threats. Such acts of terrorism are of concern to the peace-loving civil society of this country.
Central and State Governments should take exemplary action in this regard. The media should show enthusiasm to discuss this issue with the importance it deserves. The intervention of the media is essential to persuade governments to take necessary steps to defend the weaker sections who are being persecuted and killed and to eradicate fundamentalism and terrorism. KCBC added that the nations of the world must unite to confront such global terrorist activities.
