Incitement to kill; dissident priest to face the brunt

Cochin : The controversy over the Uniform code of celebration of the Holy Qurbana in the Syro-Malabar rite has escalated to an extreme level. Adv. Paulachan Puthuppara said that he will file a case against the dissident priest who incited to assassinate Cardinal Mar George Alencherry.

The sheer insistence of a few priests who refused to celebrate the Holy Qurbana facing the Altar for a few moments, led to the controversy over the Holy Eucharist. The controversy flared and led to the resignation of Bishop Anthony Kariyil. It was at this instance that the dissident priest raised this instigation against Mar Alencherry.

The priest, Fr. Sebastian Vazhappilly, of the Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly and a former vicar of St. George Forane Church Edappally, told Cherian, the Cardinal's driver for past forty years, to eliminate the Cardinal by running over with a car or by throwing into a gorge. This statement spread rapidly on social media.

Inciting anyone to commit murder is a criminal offense under the non-bailable section. Hence such a call by the dissident priest is a matter of grave importance.

After investigating the circumstances of the incident, Adv. Paulachan is set to initiate legal action. The advocate also made a video in YouTube called "Will Cardinal be murdered?". Adv. Paulachan informed in the video that he will file a case in the court against the priest the very next day.

The demand from the faithful to provide more security to Cardinal Mar George Alencherry has become stronger in view of such incitements for murder.
