Muttar: Mar Joseph Perumthottam, Metropolitan of Changanassery Archdiocese, visited the pilgrimage center of Saint Anthony, amidst the flood. His visit brought relief to the people of Upper Kuttanad who are suffering due to the flood of water from the east.
The Bishop, who saw the hardships of the people of Upper Kuttanad himself and understood their difficulties during the flood, offered a special prayer for the suffering people. He assured that he would convey the plight of the people to the government.
Many devotees braved the flood waters to visit the Bishop and listen to his comforting words. In his message to the believers, the Bishop said that they should not lose hope and hold on to faith. He added that it is the prayers of the people of Kuttanad in the church that kept them strong even amidst the flood. He also recalled the period when he served for a long time in Kuttanad.
After the prayer and visit, he also participated in the protest meeting held by the youth against the travel difficulties faced by the people of Muttar.
The plight of the people of Upper Kuttanad, where the flood waters reach first, remains unchanged despite many floods. In this situation, a help desk for people of different faiths was formed under the leadership of Father Soni, Vicar of St. Thomas Church, and around 75 youth members of the church. Such interventions of the church during the flood, gives a lot of strength to the people and the Bishop’s visit added strength to the relief work.
