Pieta statue vandalised at gunpoint in Patti Infant Jesus Catholic Church

Punjab - Unidentified miscreants vandalised Pieta Statue at the Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Patti, an old town in the northern Indian state of Punjab.

Father Thomas Poochalil, the parish priest of the Infant Jesus Catholic Church under the Jalandhar Diocese, said that the incident occurred at around 12.45am on 31st August.

The unidentified persons kept the security guards under gun point, vandalised the Pieta Statue which was just in front of the Church and set on fire the car which was in the campus.

The mob was heard raising slogans saying, ‘we are Khalistanis’. Police are currently investigating the incident.

The parish comes under the diocese of Jalandhar and the town is some 50 km south of Amritsar.

The parish priest has sought the prayers “at this shocking time for all who are staying in the campus”.
