Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem Thanks Pope Leo XIV for Global Day of Fasting and Prayer

Jerusalem:  The Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem has expressed deep gratitude to Pope Leo XIV for initiating a global day of fasting and prayer on August 22, 2025. The day was dedicated to promoting peace, justice, and offering comfort to victims of armed conflicts around the world.

Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, emphasized the importance of the Pope’s initiative, especially given the ongoing challenges in the Holy Land. He noted that the faithful in the region greatly appreciate the Pope’s attention to their struggles and his efforts to inspire hope through spiritual solidarity.

The Patriarch highlighted that prayer and fasting serve as a profound spiritual response, redirecting human focus toward God, rather than a magical solution to conflicts. In times of war and strife, the steadfast belief that God is present among His people provides strength and comfort to the faithful in the Holy Land.

Pope Leo XIV made the call for the day of fasting and prayer during a general audience on August 20, 2025, inviting Catholics worldwide to participate in this solemn observance.

This initiative reflects the Catholic Church’s ongoing commitment to fostering peace, reconciliation, and alleviating the suffering of people living in conflict-affected regions.
