Kochi: As Catholic dioceses across Kerala will conduct Faith Formation examinations this Sunday and since the children, parents and educators have set aside Sunday as usual for faith related observances, KCBC announced through a circular that Oct 2nd will be a non-working day for Catholic educational institutions.
The circular also notified that Catholic institutions will no longer observe Sunday as an official working day as demanded by the State Government.
The government directive to observe Gandhi Jayanthi, Sunday, October 2nd for Drug awareness activities cannot be complied with. Instead, another day will be chosen to carry out mentioned activities in Catholic Schools in order to adhere with Government proposals.
Christians in Kerala have repeatedly questioned and objected to the State governments attempts to mandate Sunday as an official working day, given that Sunday is observed as a Holyday by Christians all around the world. The strange directive also questions the fact that countries all around the world observe Sunday as a holiday including some of the Middle Eastern countries.
