Holy See urges disciplinary action against those who do not adhere to Synod’s instructions; Mar Andrews Thazhath

Kochi - Mar Andrews Thazhath, Apostolic Administrator of Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese informed that the Holy See has restated the need to take disciplinary action in the Archdiocese’s liturgical dispute

Mar Andrews himself clarified this in a video released after his brief meeting with the Holy Father, Pope Francis in Rome.

Mar Andrews said that the Vatican pointed out the contradictory stand of the rebelling group by at the same time saying they accept the Pope and then disobeying his instructions. The Holy Father responded by telling those who opposed the synod's proposals to simply "obey".

Pope Francis said that is he well aware of the happenings in the Archdiocese. The Holy Father stressed again to tell them to obey the Synod and to celebrate the Holy Qurbana in the manner as prescribed by the Synod of Bishops.

Mar Andrews also suggested meeting the Vatican Secretary of State. Lengthy discussions were also held with the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches and others concerned.

He also stated that the Holy See has studied and evaluated various types of letters, petitions, reports, videos etc. from the Archdiocese, based on which clear guidelines were given.

Mar Thazahath also said that the Holy Father reminded the priests to remember the oath of obedience taken on the occasion of their ordination.
