Rohit Sharma downplays tensions; 'we don't talk cricket when we meet'

MELBOURNE: In the Twenty20 World Cup in Australia, India is entering the first match with a tough fight. Whenever India-Pakistan sports matches come up, the media portrays them as war-like.

Such a picture is coming out when both of them are going to face each other in the T20 World Cup on the 23rd of this month. All the tickets were already sold out.

This is the third time the two will face each other in T20 cricket this year. While India won the Asia Cup group stage, Pakistan won the Super Four. India then lost to Sri Lanka and got eliminated.

Defeat against Pakistan was also the main reason for elimination in the group stage in the last T20 World Cup. Fans are also anxious about another India-Pak match ahead.

Now the Indian captain Rohit Sharma is openly talking about the match: "We have the conviction that we are playing against Pakistan. So before every match media workers don't need to ask about it.

Don't think that you can create pressure within us by asking like that. We do some random talks with Pakistani players.

The usual things are being talked about here too," replied Rohit.

Ahead of the World Cup, Rohit was answering questions from reporters at a function attended by the captains of all 16 teams.

Apart from Pakistan, India also has a match against Bangladesh and South Africa in the group. Moreover, the two qualifying teams will be in the group and each match will be crucial as only two teams from the group will qualify for the semi-finals.

The group stage matches will start tomorrow.

India will face Pakistan on October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. This time, the Melbourne match is one of the most hotly contested matches in the World Cup, but Indian spinner Yuvendra Chahal has no pressure from the match.

"There is nothing to be afraid of when coming against a team that has played before. There is huge hype in the media and internet about the India-Pakistan match in the World Cup.

As far as we cricketers are concerned, it's just a match and there's no need for extra pressure. Although I am active on the internet, I don't pay much attention to what is written there. Pakistan is a great team. But the focus is only on how we can improve our performance. It's all about how good the performance is on match day. The result of the match will depend on it," Chahal said.
