Beijing: The crucial Chinese party congress concluded, paving a way for President Xi Jinping (69) to be installed as a 'sovereign' in China.
China’s President Xi Jinping has strengthened his power as leader and elevated his status within the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) history, with major political resolutions announced on the final day of a key political meeting.
The party congress approved an amendment of the party constitution Saturday that could further enhance Xi Jinping’s stature as China’s leader.
China’s new central committee would include many known allies of Chinese President Xi Jinping, while four of the current seven members of the Politburo standing committee were not on the list.
Another incident which shook the media is that the former President Hu Jintao was forcibly removed from the stage by the former Chinese Communist Party during the congress meeting. In the presence of foreign media coverage, two security guards escorted Hu out of the venue. It is reported that Hu was kicked out of the venue. But there is no explanation.
Only 11 women were among the 205 people named to the Central Committee, or about 5% of the total. Members of minority groups made up 4%. Those percentages were roughly the same as in the last Central Committee.
Police were stationed along major roads, with bright-red-clad neighborhood watch workers at regular intervals in between, to keep an eye out for any potential disruptions.
The congress concluded by playing the communist anthem, “The Internationale.”
