"Church in Kerala is consecrated to the Virgin Mother", Cardinal Mar Geroge Alenchery

Kochi: We should walk together in unity and strength in order to realize the Synodal Church envisioned by Pope Francis.

The church is a communion of all those who have been baptized. There is no distinction of any kind made in this association.

Everyone walks together; leaving none behind or ahead and the one who leads is Jesus Christ.

Just as Jesus walked with the disciples who went to Emmaus and helped them to delve deeper into the mysteries of God, so does He walk with us in this age to motivate us.

We can thus fill the entire church with a new spirit, brought about by the comprehensive repentance that renewed the lives of individuals.

The Virgin Mother not only gave Jesus to the world but also made the suffering of Christ her own by participating in the salvation journey by accompanying Him. Thus Mother Mary taught us that we too can share in Christ's suffering.

When we consecrate the Church of Kerala to the Sacred Heart Mother Mary, not only does the Church receive her protection, but also becomes a part of the mystery of Christ-like his Mother.

Cardinal Mar George Alencherry, KCBC President and Major Archbishop of Syro Malabar Church stated that he hoped this reformation period will enable us to imitate Christ along with the Virgin Mary. Mar Alencherry spoke during the Consecration of the Kerala Church to the Immaculate Heart of Mothe Mary.

His Excellency Most Rev. Dr Samuel Mar Irenios, Chairman of the Kerala Church Reformation honoured the Torchbearers captains with the ponnada (traditional golden shawl). The Torchbearers from Kozhikode, Kodungallur and Thiruvananthapuram were the first to be welcomed.

Archbishop Dr Joseph Kalathiparampil was the main celebrant of the Pontifical Holy Mass celebrated thereafter.

Cardinal Mar George Alencherry, Most Rev. Dr Samuel Mar Irenios, Jacob G Palyakkapilly, Deputy Secretary General KCBC; Fr. Thomas Tharayil, KRLCBC Deputy Secretary were the co-celebrants.

Rev. Dr Stanley Mathirapilly, the Program Coordinator rendered the vote of thanks.
