Keralite Nurse bags the prestigious Irish Student Excellence Award

Belfast: Bincy Sunny made the Keralites proud by winning the Student Excellence Award in the field of nursing education facilitated at a grand function in Ireland. The nursing course is run by Northern Ireland Practice and Educational Council for Nursing and Midwifery (NIPEC) and Open University.

NIPEC and Open University have jointly shortlisted Bincy for the 2022 Student Excellence Award. The Award was instituted in connection with the Golden Jubilee of the University. Bincy received the Ever-Rolling Trophy and the individual award at the ceremony held at the Belfast Open University.

Bincy, who hails from Idukki district received the most nominations for this award. This award was given on completion of Bsc (Honours) in Mental Health Nursing.
Bincy migrated to Belfast as a senior carer in 2006. She had successfully completed General Nursing graduation from Kattapana St John's Hospital and secured PR ten years ago.

Bincy completed her Bsc studies while working as a full-time senior carer on a band five NHS nurse's salary. She gained this achievement along with household work and looking after her three young daughters. She was selected for the award on the basis of her sincerity at work, presentation of innovative ideas, dedication, ability to manage the work pressure, teamwork and professionalism. She already received an offer letter from The South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust.

The strong motivation from her husband Sunny Thomas is also a reason behind Bincy's success. Sunny Thomas, hailing from Kunnel family at Vellayamkudi in Kattappana, is a writer and a very active participant in cultural activities in Belfast. He is employed with the SP office Idukki. Her children Nikita, Neha and Faith are school-going students.

Bincy is the daughter of Puthuparambil Augustine (Baby) and Lucy (Chemmannar Valummel family). They are living at Karimala, Adimali, in Idukki district.
