Youth With Political Awareness Must Lead for a Strong Nation: SMYM State Committee

Kochi: For a nation to grow in strength and values, it is imperative that young people who are politically aware and deeply committed to their country step into leadership roles, said the State Committee of the Syro Malabar Youth Movement (SMYM). The committee emphasized that youth participation in governance is not only a right but also a responsibility, especially in shaping a just and future-oriented society.

The SMYM State Committee called upon young men and women of the Syro Malabar Church to actively contest in the upcoming local body elections, regardless of the political party they choose to represent. “What matters most is not the banner under which they contest, but the principles, integrity, and dedication they bring to serve society,” the committee observed, underscoring that political consciousness must go hand-in-hand with a genuine love for the nation.

The statement highlighted that today’s youth, when equipped with awareness and courage, can transform politics from being a mere struggle for power into a service-oriented mission. “India needs young leaders who will rise above narrow divisions and stand for values that build a stronger and fairer nation,” the committee said.

Echoing this vision, Bibin Pilappilli, President of the KCYM (Kerala Catholic Youth Movement) Mananthavady Diocese Committee, also urged that the time has come for Catholic youth to shed hesitations and step into the political arena. He insisted that it is not enough to remain spectators; the young must be decision-makers and change-makers.

The call by both SMYM and KCYM leaders comes at a crucial moment as Kerala prepares for local body polls. Their appeal is expected to inspire a new wave of youth candidates, willing to bring fresh perspectives, energy, and integrity into grassroots governance.
