Saint Liberata of Como; patronesses of women in labor

Saint Liberata was the sister of Saint Faustina of Como and both the sisters lived as holy virgins in Como, Italy, during the 6th century. They founded the Convent of Santa Margarita.

Liberata was the daughter of Giovannato, who lived in the fortress of Olgisio in Pianello Val Tidone, in the province of Piacenza, where there are prehistoric caves known as the caves of the "Saints". Though their marriage was fixed, after a vision of a woman mourning the death of her husband, Liberata fled the castle with Faustina, and they lived as hermits.

Liberata moved to Como along with Faustina and joined the Benedictines. According to Federico Troletti, the cult of Saint Faustina and Liberata is an isolated phenomenon in the Camonica Valley. It is believed that a flood was averted in the Valley through their intercession.

She died in 580 of natural causes and was buried at the cemetery of the convent of Santa Margarita at Como, Italy

Liberata and Faustina were invoked as patronesses of women in labor.
