Norovirus tested positive in kerala; infected school students undergoing treatment

Kochi: Noro virus outbreak in Ernakulam. Noro virus has been confirmed in several students at a private school in Kakkanad, Kochi on Monday. Some of the children's parents have also been diagnosed with Noro virus.

With the discovery of the virus, online classes have been introduced for the children of the first to fifth class of the school. The district health department has started preventive measures.

Noro is a group of viruses that cause stomach flu. The virus also causes severe vomiting and diarrhea. Young children, the elderly and those with other co-morbidities are more severely affected.

The disease can spread through contaminated water, food and contact with infected people. The health department advises drinking only boiled water and maintaining personal hygiene.

Diagnosis is made by RT PCR test. No vaccines have been found for this virus. Keeping the body hydrated is the main thing in preventing the virus.
