Ahmedabad: Renowned architect Dr. B.V. Doshi (Balakrishna Vithaldas Doshi) passed away. He was 95 years old. He died at his residence in Ahmedabad.
The country has honored him with Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards. Prime Minister Narendra Modi among others expressed condolences.
Doshi is an architect who has won the Pritzker Prize, known as the Nobel of Architecture, and the Royal Gold Medal of the Royal Institute of British Architects, awarded by the British Queen. He is also the first Indian to win the Pritzker.
He worked with French architect Le Corbusier on the design of Chandigarh, India's first planned city. Doshi was Louis Kahn's associate in the design of the Indian Institute of Management campus in Ahmedabad. Doshi's Vastu style was a blend of Indian architecture, climate and local culture.

He was born on August 26, 1927 in an ordinary family in Pune. Graduated from JJ College of Architecture, Mumbai with a B.Sc. Postgraduate studies at the Royal Institute of Architects, London with scholarship. He then became senior designer at Le Corbusier's studio in Paris from 1951 to 1954. For four years he was the supervisor of Le Corbusier projects in India. In 1957, he formed the Vastushilpa Foundation.
Wife: Kamala Balakrishna Doshi. The son of Mahakavi Akkatham and the famous fine arts academy and researcher Prof. Vasudevan Akitham's wife Manisha Doshi is the third daughter of Balakrishna Doshi. Other children: Tejal Doshi, Radhika Doshi Kathpalia.
